Stanford Mendicants and COVID-19

We, like so many, are heart-broken as the spread of COVID-19 has sickened and killed many across our nation and the world. While the virus caused the cancellation of an in-person Spring Quarter, we are still singing, apart, and are actively preparing for next year. Don’t worry, regardless of what happens in the Fall, we’ll be holding auditions next year in some capacity and we can’t wait to hear you. Check back on our website throughout the summer for more updates!

So you want to be a Mendicant?

As we approach this new quarter, we have directed our focus to finding the best singers and people we can to bring along with us on our year-long journey. We traditionally hold auditions in the first week of every Fall quarter. It doesn't matter if you are an incoming freshman, upperclassman, or transfer student; if you would like to learn more, come and find us in White Plaza tabling during NSO. It is a great opportunity to meet some members, see what we’re all about, and check the other groups. If you’d like to give it a shot, you can sign up for your 15-minute audition slot right here! We will release the link here when audition sign ups open.

What should I do to prepare?

For your audition, we will begin by bringing you through a quick series of range, rhythm, and pitch exercises. When this is done, we expect that you come prepared with a 30-60 second solo that shows off your range, tone, musicality, and personality. More often than not, this is just your favorite song to sing! Ultimately, we want to figure out how comfortable you are musically and who you are as a person. The best thing you can do it bring a positive attitude and an enthusiasm for music that is sure to leave a positive impression.

We look for a variety of skills beyond being a great singer: if you are a vocal percussionist, choreographer, arranger, developer, designer, rapper, or have prior leadership experience, we'd love to hear about it!

If you have additional questions, email the Auditions Director at!

How often do you guys rehearse?

We typically rehearse for 6 hours a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. We'll work around your schedules.

What happens if my callback/audition conflicts with another group's?

We understand you'll audition for other groups, and we encourage that you find the one with the right fit for you. There shouldn't be any conflicts because we coordinate with other groups, but if we made a mistake, contact immediately.

I have some questions about the group! Is it okay if I email one of the members?

Absolutely! We would love to hear from you and chat. Email:
